Hi Nancy - don't know if you saw this post from someone who attended the candidate's forum held by Nate Miley, but you were called out and favorably recognized for your comments! Your goal of trying to get people to wake up and "think" is reaching folks! I heard the same thing from some folks who attended the forum at Merritt as well. Enjoy the read!

Why are Oakland residents still saying, " I don't know who to vote for or I don't know most of the candidates running for the Mayor of Oakland. " I will tell you why because many of them are not trying to make any effort to attend any Mayoral forums going on through-out Oakland. I have attended many candidates forums and I must say the best one I have seen was the one hosted by Supervisor Nate Miley via United Seniors of Oakland and Alameda County at the East Oakland Senior Center. That was a forum to remember! Other organizations should follow suit on that forum. What was so different about this forum was that Supervisor Nate Miley was the moderator but he did an outstanding job by moving out of the way and directing the spot light on the candidates and questions from the voters. Also, he had open mic for the audience to have a voice in the questions. Majority of the questions were pertaining to what is happening in the streets of Oakland. Another candidate, Nancy Sidebotham was head on with all of her comments. She was very clear when she told the audience why they should not trust the running candidates who are already in office such as Mayor Quan, Libby Schaaf, and Rebecca Kaplan. She also said to the voters if you want things to remain the same, well these are the people you should vote for. Later, Libby and Mayor Quan started pointing fingers at each other. I would say candidate Sidebotham started something.
